What is GRE?

GRE stands for Graduate Record Examination. GRE is developed and administered by ETS. The GRE General Test is a Computer Based Test (CBT) and measures various skills like critical thinking, problem solving, English comprehension and analytical writing, skills that are required for a student to excel in graduate courses at top schools across the globe. The GRE is the most widely accepted qualifying examination by top global universities for admission into their graduate programs and PhD programs.

Although there is no single answer to how much time a test taker needs to be well prepared for the GRE, most test takers take anywhere between 2 to 4 months of time to go through various resources, attend group/one-on-one sessions and take mock tests.

There is no limit to the number of attempts a test taker can make on the GRE. However, a test taker cannot take the GRE more than 5 times in a calendar year.

The GRE can be taken throughout the year (subject to availability of test slots) Feel free to book your GRE date when you feel you are well prepared to give your best performance on test day.
Yes, the GRE General Test can be taken at home. However, at Imperial, we have always recommended taking the GRE at a test centre.
There is no single answer to this question. However, in our experience, we have seen that most students take anywhere between 2 to 4 months to prepare for the GRE
The test fee is $220. As part of this fee, you are allowed to send your GRE scores to FOUR universities of your choice, free of cost.
You can reschedule your GRE date by paying a special handling fee of $50. You can request for the postponement upto 4 days before your test date, otherwise, your test fees will be forfeited and you will have to book a fresh date.
You can cancel your test registration upto 4 days before your test date and receive half of the test fee i.e. $110 as refund. Cancelling the test date withing 4 days of your test date means that the entire test fee will be forfeited.
There is no such number. The GRE test is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so book the test date in a way that you allow sufficient time for your GRE score to reach your chosen universities ahead of the application deadlines.
